As Creative Director at Odd Dot, a division of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, my role centered managing the design process from the initial idea to the final product, ensuring we stayed on schedule and met our high standards. I led a dynamic team, fostering a culture that values creative freedom and innovation, which allowed us to push the boundaries of what’s possible in children’s publishing. My responsibilities extended to cultivating a diverse network of illustrators, authors, and freelancers, and developing style guides to maintain consistency across our varied publications. Additionally, I handled the design budget, focusing on maximizing our resources to enhance our creative results.Key Achievements:• Revamped the team’s workflow, significantly enhancing file management and project processes—resulting in a smoother operation for about 80% of our projects, allowing time for creative exploration, while improving work-life balance.• Collaborated with the team to develop and implement a comprehensive Style Guide and a new website, ensuring uniformity in Odd Dot’s branding across all touchpoints.• Led the development of unique book formats such as The Pop-up Planetarium and Read-and-Play Rocket, significantly diversifying Macmillan's portfolio and reinforcing our mission to create engaging educational experiences.• Mentored a team of designers, instilling skills necessary to produce joyous and engaging content for young readers, which in turn enhanced team expertise and product quality.Co-chair Women's Empowerment Group ERG 2020-2023

While I was at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, I worked closely with the editorial team to create publishing plans that balanced our creative vision with our division goals. My focus on improving our processes boosted our operational efficiency and helped build a supportive, innovative environment for the design team.Key Achievements:• Spearheaded the expansion of our licensing and IP initiatives, overseeing the development of 120-150 titles annually along the editorial team, which broadened our product offerings and market presence.

License and Media Tie-In Publishing

Assists Art Director to provide creative and technical guidance to a 9-person team designing approximately 150-200 titles a year. DesignManage all stages of cover and interior design production (including commissioning artwork, mechanical set-up, hiring freelancers, applying editorial and licensor comments, routing and trafficking materials for approval, maintaining tight schedules, prepping files for output, and overseeing proofing) for approximately 30-35 titles annually specializing in original series, nonfiction, leveled readers, brands, and licenses.ProcessTrain design team to implement new technology including electronic workflow, proofing, cover library, and digital archiving. Oversee junior designers; develop and coordinate internship program; hire and manage freelancers; manage reprint corrections and design guidelines for the Penguin Young Readers backlist program.
