With nine years of focused research experience, my expertise lies in addressing scientific questions with well-controlled experimental design and implementation. My work has been guided by a motivation to explore new frontiers in stem cell and systems biology, striving to bring novel insights and methodologies into the scientific community.During my tenure at Stanford, I developed a technique, CARGO-VPR, to investigate enhancer-promoter communication by overcoming positional constraints inherent to endogenous enhancers. This work, which involved the integration of R and Python programming, molecular biology, and stem cell culture, has enabled a systematic analysis of how genomic distance impacts transcriptional activation and offers a promising avenue for future genomic discovery.

Phd Graduate ResearcherStanford University School Of Medicine Sep 2017 - Sep 2024My graduate research focused on understanding how genomic and physical distance affects enhancer-promoter communication in mouse ESCs. Enhancers (DNA sequences that recruit transcriptional activators) occur at finite locations in the genome making systematic analysis of enhancer-promoter distance a challenge. We bypass these positional constraints by recruiting transcriptional activators directly to arbitrary genomic sites. We do this using CARGO-VPR, a technique to target a ~250bp genomic window with multiple molecules of catalytically dead Cas9 fused to the strong synthetic activator, VPR. This approach allows us to vary genomic distance systematically and study the affects on gene expression.
