In this position I developed and facilitated a survey course on Internal Humanitarian Assistance, introducing students to the principles and practices of the field. I challenged students to think critically about their knowledge of the world and their role in contributing to a better in it. The role also involved a great deal of coaching, mentoring and helping students to network within the field.

In this role I developed the curriculum for a new course in International Emergency Management/Humanitarian Assistance which did not exist previously. The course introduced students to a more global perspective on emergency response, including the principles and structures around responding to humanitarian emergencies. My goal was to create ways to engage with non-traditional students in the classroom in order to keep the learning relevant and to inspire them in their career choices.

As the first Executive Director (paid) for this organization, I took on every possible role - fundraising, marketing and communications, finance, volunteer management, program design and management, and operations, all with the support of a large team of volunteers. Creating a common mission, inspiring people to do their best work, developing systems and processes and leading on deployments, all with minimum resources, made for an exciting and challenging role.
