I have been an expert marker for Edexcel Pearson for over 10 years (Functional Skills). When based in the UK, I also conducted standards verification on behalf of Pearson which involves verifying and centre assessment decisions through scrutiny of assignments and samples of learner work within centres and offering support and guidance.

Loved working at this predominantly international school. It is now part of the Stephen Perse Foundation. I left to experience living and working abroad. During my time here, my roles included:• Teaching Sociology (lead) and Law (General, ATAR and undergraduate level) • SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator) – assessor and advisor of students with special needs. Literacy lead.

I took this one year contract and was able to use my degree to teach Sociology. Other duties at this wonderful school were:• English intervention teacher – working with the traveller (gypsy) community • Developed English (literacy) resources for the traveller community, not in mainstream education • PSD (community services) teacher (due to Social Work qualifications) It was great to work with the traveller community and I was able to forge good links with the local community, securing networks, enabling my business, IGISkillsbuild to be awarded County Council funding to work with Traveller Education.

This was an EOTAS (Education Other Than At School) school for students excluded from mainstream education which sadly shut in 2013. My roles were:• Lead GCSE maths teacher at a specialist school for excluded children • Acting Headteacher for one term • Functional skills (OLNA) lead, Safeguarding lead (level 3)During this time, I was also co directing and running IGISkillsbuild - my not-for-profit company offering free literacy to learners in their own communities and training staff to deliver literacy and numeracy in various situations.

• Part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering specialist care to people with brain injuries. • Coordinator of training programmes and delivering training and group therapy to patients as part of their rehabilitation. • Team leader for intake and assessment team (adults)I wanted to keep my social work registration up as well as my teaching registration. This was a leading centre worldwide in its field so a great opportunity. I learnt so many new skills and was able to utilise my social work training. It also gave me the opportunity to set up my company, co founded with an ex colleague, delivering and training basic skills within local communities. This company run very successfully until I moved to Australia in 2016.
