Christine co-founded Space Lab (www.spacelabtech.com) in 2016, with the mission of advancing human space exploration through research and technology development. She is a space habitat systems engineer with a passion for sustainable, Earth independent solutions for human space exploration. Her multidisciplinary expertise in space agriculture, ecology, bioastronautics (the study and support of life in space), information systems (including database design, data mining, analytics, and machine learning), robust design for quality engineering, and project management provide a unique skillset for developing sustainable space life support technology. As Space Lab’s Vice President, she leads business administration, business development, and quality assurance. She also provides systems engineering and analysis support to various projects as needed. She manages several R&D projects, including µG-LilyPond™ - a hydroponic crop production system for microgravity; Space Lab® Café – a refrigerator sized vertical farm for spacecraft and households on Earth; MarsOasis® - a hydroponic Martian greenhouse; HEART – an autonomous space habitat health management tool; and PHILM™ - regenerative CO2 control for plant habitats. She conducts space botany research and is currently investigating duckweed (family Lemnaceae) for use as a nutritious space crop. Christine conducts PhD research in the robust design of space life support systems at the University of Colorado at Boulder, is co-founder of the Propagule Space Ecology Institute (www.propagule.space), and co-organizes the global Space Ecology Workshop (www.spaceecologyworkshop.com).Christine has over 10 years of experience in technical leadership and engineering management in the space industry. Before co-founding Space Lab, she was a Mission Manager for the NASA Sounding Rocket Operations Contract II (NSROC II), where she led teams of engineers and technicians through the life cycle of fourteen sounding rocket missions. As a Systems Engineer for NSROC I, she applied her skills in data analysis to attitude determination and flight vibration data. Prior to working in the space industry, Christine was a leader in public health emergency preparedness, providing planning, training, and assessment of readiness for public health disasters and bioterrorism.
