Reporting directly to the CEO/CAO, I provided expert level advice on the administration and interpretation of both union and non-union issues including; determining short and long-term objectives and translating them into actionable and executable human resources and labour relations strategies. I developed and drove organizational effectiveness through taking an inclusive, consensus building leadership approach that promoted a healthy culture and strategic human capital plans. These ensured areas such as compensation, professional development, recruitment and retention were all aligned with the ONA's strategic objectives and goals. I lead a department of professionals responsible in the administration of the organization’s functional areas in people services: human resources, labour relations, payroll & benefits and learning and organizational development.

Provided expert level guidance in all employee/labour relations matters which enabled the strategic development of effective people practices and ensured compliance to relevant employment legislation. Managed an Employee & Labour Relations team and led in the areas of collective bargaining, workplace investigations, grievance administration, performance management, collective agreement administration, disability management, compensation, progressive discipline, restructuring, termination, organizational wide committees, projects and policy development.Established and maintained effective communication and relationships with all levels of the organization, external partners and the Local union leadership. The proactive and collaborative approach resolved matters in the best interests of management, employees, patients, and the health care environment.

Negotiated and administered the collective agreements to support the University of Toronto’s objectives while fostering a climate of positive employer/employee relations. Led and participated in negotiations, provided advice on the interpretation and application of 22 collective agreements (CUPE, USW, OPSEU, HERE, CAW, IBEW, SMW, Plumbers, etc.), involved in all aspects of grievances such as managing, investigating, advising clients of recourse, formal written responses, settling/resolving, drafting minutes of settlement, mediation and arbitration process. Provided customized training, advice, counselling and ensured both management and Human resources are in compliance with relevant legislation (Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.). Advised University management and Human Resource staff on employment related legislation, case law, and HR Management principles which ensured compliance and consistency.

Provided guidance for both union and non union staff in labour and employee relations matters, including the administration, interpretation and application of various collective agreements and the handling of complaints/disputes and grievances Involved in all aspects of grievance handling from Dispute Resolution, Step II, Step III, mediation and arbitration for both policy and individual grievances for CUPE Local 79 and TCEU Local 416 employees by conducting investigations such as obtaining supporting documentation, interviewing, writing responses to the union, writing Minutes of Settlement, liaising with the appropriate divisional staff, Legal and the Human Rights officeCollaborated with internal divisions & in partnership with the union to identity and proactively resolve employee problems before they became grievances.Spokesperson and actively participated in 3 rounds of collective bargaining with CUPE and Firefighters through information gathering, costing proposals, drafting collective agreement language, surveying comparator union settlement trends, etc.
