Christine Bolaños is the Communications Director at Workers Defense Project and Workers Defense Action. WDP is a statewide member-based organization building power for low-wage, immigrant workers across Texas. Through education, organizing and direct services, WDP empowers workers to win fair, safe jobs and become effective advocates for themselves and their communities.She previously served as Communications Director of Jolt Action, the largest civic engagement organization for Latinos in Texas, as its Communications Director. In February 2020, while eight months pregnant, she planned and executed logistics surrounding the attendance of presidential candidates' campaigns at the groundbreaking Jolt Movimiento 2020 town hall for and by young Latino voters. She also managed all youth who asked the candidates questions and media interviews from as far as Japan and France and as close as Houston. The 2016 International Women's Media Foundation fellow reported on women's development and rights in El Salvador. She covered government, politics, education, human interest features, and business for numerous international, national and local outlets. A significant amount of her most recent work focused on women's rights and immigration reaching potentially about 6 million readers. The proud Salvadoran-American's work has been published in The Guardian, The Mujerista, NPR's Latino USA, The Daily Dot, Remezcla, We are Mitu, BESE, Fusion (now Splinter), News Deeply, LATINA Style Magazine, Latino Rebels, Austin American-Statesman, The Crime Report, American Inno, Payday Report and The Trace. She is a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and journalism from Baylor University.In September 2017, Bolaños served as one of three esteemed media panelists who shared their views on "A Citizen Diplomat in the Information Age at the Texas State Capitol." She also shared her experiences reporting in El Salvador during a discussion she led during lunch hour focused on US-Central American relations. The Diplomacy Begins Here regional summit was hosted by Global Ties, Global Austin and the U.S. Department of State, among others. She previously served on the board of the Central Texas chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, as the volunteer editor of Latinitas Magazine, which empowers young girls of color through media and technology; and, as the media sponsor of the Austin-wide Chingona Fest, which celebrates impactful Latina women in arts and culture.
