I have 19 years of experience in health care, ranging from Inpatient Ward Unit Secretary, Medical Technician, Hearing Conservationist, and Audiometrist. The Audiologists I worked for saw my thirst for growth and helped foster my confidence in areas I never even imagined. For instance it was not in my purview to be a content creator. Yet, I enjoyed writing freelance articles for ADVANCE for Speech and Hearing where other professionals share meaningful outlooks on the industry. This newfound curiosity for researching and creating content paved the way for additional volunteerism. I was one of about a dozen selected, among hundreds of applicants, to join the Hearing Loss Association of America's NCHATT (Network of Consumer Hearing Assistive Technology Trainers) Program. As a NCHATT volunteer I have presented many courses to local civic clubs, Florida ADA symposium, and health fairs.I strongly advocate for living well with hearing loss through my volunteer service, partnerships with local community health centers, assisted living facilities, and health promotion events. As a task-oriented person, I am motivated to achieve the highest hearing aid adoption rate possible by helping overcome financial barriers to care, physical access to care via remote support, and coaching patients and their loved ones. Awareness and education are the building blocks for lasting engagement and buy-in with treatment plans. The grit I developed in various roles such as Lead Liaison for a hospital Newborn Hearing Screening Program, mobile hearing screening services at a Naval Shipyard, and independent provider charged with growing a dispensing center, has helped me effectively serve a patient population with historically less than ideal hearing care acceptance rates.
