- Ensure that commercial and medical affairs activities in the gastrointestinal therapeutic area (ulcerative colitis, chronic constipation) are conducted in accordance with the scientific and medical evidence, as well as the appropriate legal, regulatory and corporate requirements- Provide medical communications support of commercial activities: input in development of promotional and non-promotional materials from the concept stage, review of materials, development of medical information documents, scientific slide decks, medical information booth at congresses, press releases, issue management- Proactively identify needs of internal stakeholders (commercial, marketing, training, medical affairs) in support of product portfolio- Process and service optimization for medical communications- Medical information: create standard response documents and respond to escalated inquiries

During the 5 years in this role, I provided scientific support for a broad range of therapeutic areas, each time getting quickly up to speed with the state-of-the-art of the scientific knowledge. The domains included depression, diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, restless legs syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, female hypoactive desire disorder, stress urinary incontinence, oral anticoagulation, diabetes, soft tissue sarcoma and osteopetrosis.I took care of the thought leader relations and advisory boards within the field of mental health and designed disease awareness campaigns together with patient advocacy groups.I took part in several product launches, from writing the medical part of the market access files and the payer advocacy work, to the development and review of the marketing strategy and materials. The launches included Cymbalta (mass-market, precise positioning, important KOL network), Sifrol (innovative, patient advocacy work), Yentreve, Pradaxa (small market, change of treatment habits).I also developed, initiated and followed-up post-marketing/phase 4 trials, provided scientific trainings and presentations, medical information, and staffed the medical booth in international congresses.

In my first role in pharma, I provided scientific support for the mental health product portfolio. This included stablishing contacts with key opinion leaders, providing medical information, and taking care of drug safety reporting as well as of the medical training of sales and internal staff. I also initiated and followed-up a post-marketing trial and prepared the market access submission for a line extension.

My PhD thesis involved two major parts: the study of the structural characteristics of a membrane-bound enzyme as well as the kinetics of the truncation of its natural substrates. The testing of different inhibitors allowed to develop a better understanding of the active site and contributed to the development of new diabetes drugs.
