Working within Edinburgh Innnovations Ltd, the University of Edinburgh's industry engagement and research commercialisation office, my role as a Commercial Relations Exeutive was to raise the profile of the University's research within industry, attract new industry partners, and work with both academic and industry partners to develop research projects aimed at meeting the needs of industry. The role also involved managing the budgeting and administration of Impact Acceleration Account funding from NERC and EPSRC.

Scottish Health Innovations Ltd is the Technology Transfer Office for NHS Scotland. As an Innovation Specialist, my role involved: - The identification and evaluation of IP arising from NHS Scotland.- The project management of the commercialisation of potentially valuable IP, including implementing relevant protections, attracting translational funding to develop the IP further, and establishing a route to market either via a licensing agreement or a spin-out company.- I was solely responsible for SHIL's activity within Tayside and Grampian, a large geographic area.The majority of inventions taken forward to commercialisation were either medical devices or diagnostics.

I took a year-long sabbatical during which my husband and I cycled from London to Sydney. The journey of over 10,000 miles took us through 26 hugely varying countries and involved extreme physical, mental, emotional, and logistical challenges.

As a market analyst specialising in Cardiovascular and Metabolic disorders, my role involved authoring indication-specific in-depth reports and forecasts for pharmaceutical industry clients. As part of the research process, I regularly performed in-depth interviews with key opinion leaders and with healthcare payers. A detailed understanding of the drug development process was crucial for this.I also provided consultation services to our clients, including several blue-chip pharmaceutical companies, and was quoted in media outlets such as Reuters, Bloomberg, and the Pink Sheet.
