About Christine Mehta
I am an investigative researcher, editor and public speaker with 10 years’ experience producing high-impact reports, briefings, and op-eds at the intersection of human rights, journalism and business. The thread running through the diversity of work in my portfolio is a passion for rigorous research, excellent writing, and real-world impact. I aim to produce research that breaks new ground, sparks innovative thinking, and makes significant contributions to current debates, whether they be the use of less-than-lethal weapons for crowd control, or novel crop protection in agriculture. Journalistic objectivity and storytelling is the foundation of all my work. A journalist-by training, I have published hard-hitting op-eds and articles in publications like the New York Times, Foreign Affairs, Al Jazeera and USA Today. Media outlets like the Associated Press, Reuters, NPR, the New York Times, and the BBC have cited my work. One report alone, titled “Blind to Justice”, generated more than 1,000 mentions in news wires around the world, and caught the attention of the United Nations, which used the report as a basis to denounce India’s excessive use of force against protesters in Jammu and Kashmir, India. As a research and teaching fellow at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, I taught investigative journalism to graduate students, presented research at an Investigative Reporters and Editors annual conference (NICAR), and worked with the New York Times on immigration and Trump’s border policies. During my tenure at Cornell University, I directed a team of graduate students to carry out research on economic development trends, and produce briefs, white papers, presentations and reports on university R&D spending, innovation, and agriculture. I am deeply passionate about teaching and mentorship and thrive in elevating other people’s work to create accurate, engaging, and compelling research.
