Asurco Contracting specialises in the manufacture of precast Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC). GRC is suitable for a variety of applications because of its inherent lighter weight. Asurco supplies precast GRC elements for projects all around Australia.

I am involved with primary design and drafting. Using Microstation 3D and Microstation to model equipment, transformer bunds(with the correct splash angles and falls), steel structures and foundations, I am able to pick-up design issues and clearance problems while still in design phase. Clearance issues are sometimes hidden in 2D. Notable projects: Cultana and Davenport Augmentation. Central Terminal Building - My responsibility on this project was to get to a set of drawings that were resolved. Areas included the atrium, check-out lounge and the Gautrain link. Modelling these areas in the correct position on an LO grid system made it possible to take GPS coordinates from my model Having been given a Tekla model (steel manufacturers model) halfway through the construction phase gave me a chance to do ‘clash detection’. Gautrain - Modelling the tree structure and stations from concept design phase was my main involvement on the Gautrain project. The tree columns were changed a few times and elevations had to be generated from the model.Oberoi Mall - This was my first India project that I worked on. The company was only involved with design development and overseeing of documentation. The latter was done in India. Maponya Mall - I was mainly involved with the entrances and resolving ceilings in the mall. Modelling all architectural and structural elements gave one the opportunity to view the model in pdf format and to resolve any issues that became apparent. All documentation was generated from the model - this included structural documentation.Bedford Square - This project changed clients twice trough the construction phase. The design changed from a Tuscan to an ultra modern building. Most of the structure was done by then and had to change - a Tuscan structure needed to look like a modern building! To get the design spot-on was the key. Applying the new façade treatment on an existing structure and generating documents and a solar study around troubled areas proved to be the solution. I concentrated on covered walkways, entrance canopies and sun shading.Michelangelo Towers - My involvement with this project was to build and develop the external façade of the building. Elevations, sections, plans and moulding information were then taken from the model to help with construction documentation - this process gave you a resolved façade.

This was a contract position. As part of a team of two people, we finished the interior documentation of the Mirage Beech Resort Hotel (Phase 2) - UAE. I also worked on the interior documentation for the South African Reserve Bank Head Ofiice.

This was one of my two contract positions. This position saw me building structural models using Triforma and generating documentation from the model. These models had to be kept up-to-date. Projects included the Virgin Active at Melrose Arch in Lyndhurst - Johannesburg and the Pemba Hotel in Pemba - Mosambique.
