Formerly Chr. Roberts Chair Associate Professor of Archaeology at Dickinson College (2001-2021), currently Professor at The Institute of World Politics (2022-) and President of the Mycenaean Foundation (2013-), Christofilis Maggidis is an active field archaeologist in Greece for four decades. Born in Greece, Maggidis received a vigorous classical education in the Classical Lyceum of the Anavryta School, and the Univ. of Athens (B.A. in History and Archaeology, 1988). He pursued graduate studies on prestigious fellowships (Fulbright, William Penn, and Charles Williams Fellowships) at the Univ. of Pennsylvania (Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology, 1994), and postdoctoral studies as a Fellow at Brown Univ. (1997-1999).For two decades (2001-2021), Prof. Maggidis held the Christopher Roberts Chair in Archaeology at Dickinson College, where he created the Department of Archaeology and led it from inception to success, designed the Keck Archaeology Lab and its innovative dig simulator, directed its international field school at Mycenae, Greece, and taught 44 different undergraduate courses in the art, architecture, and archaeology of the Prehistoric Aegean, Classical Greece, Republican/Imperial Rome, Ancient Egypt and the Near East. In 2022, Maggidis was appointed Professor at The Institute of World Politics, Washington D.C., teaching graduate courses in ancient democracy, warfare and diplomacy in the ancient world, and leading "Hermes," the Institute's study abroad program in Greece.Christofilis Maggidis is an active field archaeologist with long field experience since 1985 (Thera, Idaion Cave, Archanes, Glas, Mycenae, Spercheios). Prof. Maggidis was director of Glas (2010-11), and is currently is Field Director at Mycenae (2002-), and of the MY.SPE.AR. Project (2018-). His main research interests focus on Aegean Prehistory, but also include Classical Greek Sculpture and Architecture, and Archaeological Methodology. Prof. Maggidis has given 41 invited lectures and presented 45 international conference papers around the world. His publications comprise 26 articles, numerous excavation reports, one book submitted for publication and two more forthcoming books.Prof. Maggidis was elected President of the Mycenaean Foundation in 2013. Under his presidency, the Foundation raised funds and received grants, established the Melathron American Center for Archaeology at Mycenae, and dynamically engaged educational programs, research projects, and cultural activities in collaboration with renowned universities, institutes, and organizations from around the world.
