I'm a mechanical engineer by training and an entrepreneur with a commitment to make data-driven monitoring and diagnostics the new normal in the production systems of tomorrow. At heart I am a builder, who thoroughly enjoys watching abstract ideas become concrete. Then become reality. And then successes.As a student I committed a large share of my time in pursuit of a dream that every community in Micani, a rural Bolivian district I feel closely attached to, should have access to sanitation, clean drinking water, and smoke-free cookstoves. My companions and I built an NGO to make this dream a success.I spent the past years at a leading Swiss technology center, helping SMEs and corporations alike to create value from data acquired in the manufacturing process. Most of my projects tackled the need for specialised algorithms motivated by predictive maintenance use cases for applications as diverse as pumps, mining equipment, trains, semiconductor machines, and turbo compressors. And yet with every project, it became clearer to me, that it does not take better AI to build the production systems of tomorrow. If we want to bring industrial AI from trade fair stages to the shop floor, we need to get rid of the humanoid robot on our slides and lift the curtain. We need to think of AI as what it is: different algorithms that we can tune with quality data to solve actual problems. With a pragmatic view we can tackle the real problems that are keeping many companies from doing just that.In 2022 I founded Alpamayo with the two most capable young people I know and ever since we have been working on building the technology that does just that.
