My curiosity for how things work has always been my greatest motivator. That’s what drove me into engineering and research. From very early on I realized that creating things and finding solutions for difficult problems was something I am very passionate about. During my studies and professional career, I had multiple opportunities to prove that this passion is not only good for satisfying my curiosity but can also benefit others. That is why I decided to stay in the field of research, to be in the forefront of thinking new ideas and developing new solutions for problems which ultimately help people live a better and saver life.Today I am a research assistant in the field of navigation. My main focus is on robotics, sensors, embedded software development and algorithms for navigation and positioning. My day-to-day tasks consist of writing code to develop new algorithms, improving existing solutions to make them more reliable and making sure that these algorithms and solutions are also applied in real-world scenarios. In order to provide a greener and safer future, some of my accomplishments are helping to create an autonomous navigation module for compost turners or being part of a team, which created a way to help emergency forces in demanding scenarios. As another passion of mine is gardening, research projects like ANTON and ANDREA, which try to revolutionize the composting industry suited me well. Together with the team I am working in we helped to bring automation to this industry. The job of emergency forces can be very hazardous in some scenarios. In the research project ROBOMOLE I helped to create a robot which can reduce the risk by being the first asset to enter these hazardous scenarios. As most of these dangerous scenarios are indoor or underground, it also sparked my interest in algorithms which simultaneously provide information about the position of a robot and map the environment.Overall, my skills in being able to understand problems quickly and finding appropriate solutions contributed to the success of many research projects. My main areas of expertise are the development of algorithms for real-time applications, the creation of hardware modules which apply these algorithms in the real world and the problem solving when things do not go as planned (as they sometimes do 😉).My goal in life is to contribute to a brighter, greener and safer future for our planet and I encourage anyone with similar goals and passions to get in touch with me. 🙂
