The University of Applied Sciences HTW Berlin offers over 70 study programmes in the areas of technology, computing, business, culture and design. It is the largest university of applied sciences in Berlin. Subjects range from classical disciplines such as mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and business administration to new and innovative study programmes such as facility management, economic policy and game design.In my spare time (mostly weekends) I teach the module 'Strategies of Business Communication' and "Innovation Management" at the HTW Berlin. These are mandatory modules of the University's Bachelor in Business Communication. In these modules students learn how to develop strong marketing strategies and how create as well as manage innovation. A core theory students learn to apply is the Job to be Done Theory by Clayton Christensen. Furthermore students gain experience in agile principles, design thinking and lean (TPS) methodologies.In order for the students to gain practical experience in the field they are tasked to solve a real business challenge during the semester (3.5 months). This challenge is developed together with a real company. The goal is to empower students to not only learn business theory but to enable them to apply the theories in practice i.e. business challenge they will face once they are out of university.
