I am a patent, copyright, and trade secret litigation attorney primarily in the high tech space who is always striving to stay on the cutting edge of my clients' technology. I litigate in every forum, from the U.S. Supreme Court, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, to the U.S. District Court, and even the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. From the time I began tinkering with my IBM Aptiva with its 14.4 Kbps modem more than 25 years ago, to my time as an undergraduate at MIT 15 years ago, I've been fascinated by the developments of technology and how they impact our society and world from both a business and social perspective. I’m always thinking about my clients’ needs and trying to find the most practical solutions, even if those solutions may not require litigation. As a CIPP/US certified privacy wonk who has been writing about technology privacy issues since the early 2000s, I also enjoy advising my clients on the implications of emerging technologies on privacy and security. I am passionate about community and pro bono service. I'm proud to have represented numerous pro bono clients, particularly in the education space, and have developed a specialty practice in special education law and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. I also undertake complex pro bono representations in employment discrimination cases, which have included employees facing disability discrimination for psychiatric and other ailments. I recently completed a 3-year term as an elected member of the Alexandria City School Board in Alexandria, VA, and have served on numerous boards for organizations that seek to empower and improve the lives of our youth. Last, but certainly not least, I am an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession and in society more generally. I have presented numerous times on the subject and serve on the diversity committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association. I also serve as the Membership and Diversity committee co-chair for the American Bar Association’s Science and Technology section.
