I serve as Staff Flight Surgeon for a Joint Military Aeromedical Clinic under the US DOD. I am responsible for examining, diagnosing, and prescribing courses of treatment in cases of acute illness, and injury. Additionally, I administer routine and specialized outpatient care to aviation personnel. I provide diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic services to patients primarily in the Aviation Medicine Clinic. I synthesize associated laboratory, radiological, and consultation data from other entities to ensure proper planning. Ultimately, I am responsible for comprehensive treatment planning and execution in accord with evidence based guidelines. I also perform military specific medical tasks, including periodic physical exams, fitness-for-duty evaluations, flight physicals, follow-up for health issues identified during Deployment Health assessments, and aero-medical summaries. I am subject to provide on-call coverage in support of the Clinic and physician's area of specialty service. I regularly exceed targets for productivity established for the department. Inherent to my position is the ability to communicate skills and knowledge to other health professionals and para-professionals. Quality assurance reports, various regulatory inspections, peer reviews, and the degree of patient satisfaction constitute review of work. I am the subject matter expert for all processes and programs affecting military medical readiness. I manage the medical aspects of the Aviation Medicine Program by conducting lectures and classes for aviation personnel. I provide medical supervision to health care delivery personnel assigned to the Aviation clinic. This includes allied health professionals and enlisted medical specialists assigned to the services. I provide medical supervision for the coordination of care obtained from outside civilian and non-civilian hospitals. I evaluate the performance of assigned personnel, providing advice, counsel, or instruction to individuals.
