My name is Christopher James Abad, I was born in Miami, Florida. After 21 years and several jobs I held including bell service, concierge, salesman, and Barista, I decided to enlist in the United States Air Force. I have loved every moment I’ve been able to spend in my enlistment. I started as an Airborne Operations Specialist at Tinker AFB. I deployed twice to South West Asia, and did multiple TDY’s I was a supervisor and the go to operator for the surveillance section. I was awarded BTZ and became an instructor. I was then made a Formal training instructor, attended ACC, Classroom instructor Course. I taught hundreds of new Airman and retrainees how to become a 1A4. In 2017 I was promoted to SSgt. During my Airman Leadership School I was a Flight leader and assured that everyone under my leadership graduated on time. During my time as a Formal training instructor I was also the Non Commissioned officer in charge of Squadron Occupational Safety. I was in charge of over 200 personnel and maintaining their currencies all meanwhile teaching students flying and debriefing. I’m used to a fast paced work life and a rewarding career. In 2018 I was selected for retraining to become a flight engineer. I attended basic flight engineer course and was awarded Distinguished graduate at the end of the course. I then attended initial flight qualification for C-5 FE. I passed with a “Q1” which is the highest grade you can achieve. I then unfortunately had a blood clot that turned into a pulmonary embolism. This put a stop to my aviation career and eventually my Air Force career. After being assessed through a Med board I was awarded 60% disabled from the military resulting in a medical retirement and 100% from the VA. I also hold a Top Secret clearance that’s active until 2023 and am excited to see what the next part in life brings. My wife and I will be moving to Berea Kentucky, and am extremely motivated to start a new career when we get there.
