Christopher Acebo is a producer, director and designer for film and live events. Currently is CEO of Grandave International, a film sales and distribution company.For 13 seasons he was the Associate Artistic Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. His work at OSF included collaborating on season planning, creative team selection, casting, strategic planning and producing all productions at the festival. He also created the Latinx Play Project at OSF which was an incubator and connector of Latinx work and artists. In January 2020, Christopher entered a new creative endeavor as CEO of Broken English Productions whose mission is to develop films that center stories of the latinx experience. Current films include 7th & Union starring Omar Chapparro, Like it Used to Be starring Gina Rodriguez and Karla Souza and The Monster Within set to begin filming in Chile in early 2021.As a working artist serving on the Oregon Arts Commission, and a former board of director for Theater Communication Group. He was part of the founding steering committee of the Latinx Theater Commons and initiated the Latinx Play Project at OSF.As a Director he created AMERICAN MARIACHI for South Coast Rep and Arizona Theater Company which was the largest selling production in the theatres 30 year history. In Portland, he directed Lynn Nottages Pulitzer Prize winning SWEAT For Profile Theater. As a set and costume designer he he designed over 30 productions in Ashland including the world premiere production and subsequent Broadway production of the 2014 Tony Award winning best play ALL THE WAY by Robert Schenkkan starring Bryan Cranston. For seven years, he was an ensemble member of the nationally acclaimed Cornerstone Theater Company in Los Angeles.He was a tenure tracked Assistant Professor in the Theatre and Dance Department at Cal State University, Los Angeles (2002-2007) and has also taught Master Classes in Design at UC San Diego.He is a recipient of two OVATION awards for Outstanding design and was an inaugural recipient of the Latino Theater Commons Award for Outstanding Advocacy for Latina/o Voices.
