As a research assistant I began undergraduate research looking at the large data set from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, which included millions of stars, galaxies, and quasars. I was tasked with determining accurate redshift measurements of quasars. This required the creation of my own automated program to determine these measurements for ~300,000 objects. I worked closely with colleagues both in Utah and abroad to ensure the success of this project.As a graduate student I switched to working on galaxy formation and evolution. I currently use Hubble Space Telescope imaging combined with Adaptive Optics ground based spectroscopy to analyze the mass profiles of ultra compact objects known as UCDs. We infer the presence of supermassive black holes in these objects by making use of state of the art dynamical modeling techniques. In this role, I developed 200+ programs that reduce and analyze astronomical images and spectra. I've developed my own statistical tests to ensure accurate and precise results.

I taught an entry-level general education astronomy course. As an adjunct professor, I was responsible for developing my own lecture material, discussion sections, quizzes, and exams. I utilized a variety of technologies and teaching methodologies to garner interest and excitement. This included incorporating current research topics in to the curriculum. I also provided students with the opportunity to interact with real astronomers through "star parties" and the college's astronomy club.
