Christopher L. Alexander directs the USF Corrosion of Civil Infrastructure Research Laboratory. His research group uses in-situ electrochemical analysis tools to elucidate the driving forces in corrosion initiation and propagation and designs tools to detect and mitigate corrosion. Coupled with multi-physics finite-element models, this analysis aides in our development of structural life prediction models which are used in the design phase for materials selection, and in the service phase for scheduling maintenance and inspections. Our ability to reliably predict the degradation of our infrastructure is a direct measure of our ability to provide a sustainable and resilient future for future generations.
