Christopher R. Altieri is a journalist, author, and editor with nearly two decades’ experience in print, digital, and broadcast journalism, Altieri’s byline is recognized across the English-speaking world and beyond. Altieri has built editorial departments and spearheaded major publishing initiatives for the Catholic Herald, designed and launched new media initiatives, implemented efficient and transparent editorial budgeting practices, and coordinated complex editorial operations across continents. He has produced, directed, and hosted special programming involving dozens of major figures from every continent, as well as multimedia and cross-platform live events distributed worldwide. He also helped launch Vatican Radio’s Facebook page and establish Vatican Radio’s English-language social media presence.Altieri holds the PhD (research doctorate in philosophy) from the Pontifical Gregorian University, and is author of three books: The Soul of a Nation: America as a Tradition of Inquiry and Nationhood (2015, Pickwick), Into the Storm: Chronicle of a Year in Crisis (2020, TAN Books), and Signs of the Times: How to read the news without losing your faith (2021, CTS). Altieri has written for the Catholic Herald, Catholic World Report, Our Sunday Visitor, America, Catholic News Agency, First Things, The Catholic Thing, Faith, and Crux, inter alia. He also appears as a guest on several Catholic, world news, and affairs programs in both radio and television. Altieri has vast experience as a translator, especially of philosophical and theological texts. He was lead translator on a collection of essays in dogmatic theology under the editorship of the late Karl Josef Card. Becker, SJ and Prof. Ilaria Morali, titled Catholic Engagement with World Religions. More recently, he has been the translator of recourse for Fr. Federico Lombardi, SJ.Altieri’s main areas of academic specialization and research interest include the role of tradition in intellectual inquiry; the relationship of competing cosmologies/anthropologies to the constitution of society; the relationship of civil society to the state; competing conceptions of political liberty and the role of religion in public life; the possibility of (inter)cultural dialogue. From 2010 to 2013, Altieri taught in the IES Abroad Rome program. He is also affiliated with the Philadelphia-based Collegium Augustinianum interdisciplinary research consortium (Ass. Prof.) and is a founding affiliate of the Benedict XVI Centre for Religion and Society of St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, London (external).
