I am a partner in the Commercial and Complex Litigation Department of AALRR. I chaired the Firm's Litigation Advisory Committee, and I am the Editor of and frequent contributor to the Firm's Labor and Employment Law Blog providing analysis and commentary of interest to California employers. My practice is focused on civil litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts, counseling and representing employers regarding a variety of labor and employment matters, and representing businesses and individuals involved in coverage disputes with their insurers.The employment matters I regularly handle on behalf of employers include wage and hour compliance and lawsuit avoidance; defense of single plaintiff, multiple plaintiff, and class action lawsuits alleging wage and hour violations; defense of alleged discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and breach of contract lawsuits; defense of alleged violation of federal and state leave laws lawsuits; and defense of state and federal agency investigations conducted by agencies such as the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the United States Department of Labor. I also regularly advise and represent policyholders regarding insurance coverage for various claims, and I have obtained millions of dollars in policy benefits for clients of the Firm, typically after an insurer has denied covered for a claim. I regularly represent policy holders regarding coverage disputes involving commercial general liability policies, employment practices liability policies, and workers compensation insurance policies. Reported appellate court decisions in matters I have handled in whole in part before the California Court of Appeal include: 20th Century Insurance Company v. Stewart (1998) 63 Cal.App.4th 1333; Small v. Superior Court (2007) 148 Cal.App.4th 222; and Lazarin v. Superior Court (2010) 188 Cal.App.4th 1560
