Chris joined 4R Group in 2017 initially to contract manage one of their many land spreading operations and then in early 2018 he became a member of the 4R Consultancy team. Chris has applied his understanding of contaminant chemistry to 4R Group’s consultancy work with a number of high profile clients in the manufacturing and waste treatment industries. This work includes End-of-Waste applications, hazardous material assessments (WM3), chemical risk assessments, bespoke permit applications, permitting consultancy and aiding or taking the lead on preparation of specialist tenders for a wide scope of work.

Working under the project's operations manager, the contract manager was responsible for the land spreading of 18,000 tons of organic material to a significant farming estate in Cheshire; implementing each stage of the project cycle; including sampling and mapping of arable land, preparation/submission of deployment applications, Environment Agency liaison, site preparation and coordination of deliveries, operating heavy plant to assist tipping of material, managing the spreading and associated compliance and records keeping. This project lasted for approximately 6 months from the start of sampling up to the final delivery of material, with ongoing post-operation monitoring and compliance

Research was focused on environmental pollution, fate and behaviour of contaminants in soil, and their remediation. Studied contaminants were mainly inorganic, originating from either mining or smelting processes; Project aims included seeking novel and green remediation strategies for the treatment of soils contaminated with a range of potentially toxic elements, modelling the transport of toxic metals in various solvents including organic acids, and identifying the binding phases of toxic metals in mining/smelter impacted environments. Key responsibilities: • Initiating independent research projects• Obtaining funding for internal and national grant projects, with project results in the form of publication in international journals. • English language corrections in all research articles produced by members of the Department of Soil Science and Soil Protection.• Teaching a weekly class of MSc. and BSc. students, ‘Soil science –methods of analyses. • Participating in international conferences and visiting other institutes to give guest lectures• Supervising undergraduate students' thesis work
