Chris leads the Science & Religion Initiative through creating programs, courses, talks, and publications that bring the Catholic faith and modern science into dialogue. His work is the culmination of 18 years of faith and science scholarship and educational program creation, as well as a lengthy career in Catholic theological education spanning high-school, undergraduate, graduate and seminary teaching. In his five years as Director, SRI has seen major growth, reaching over 2700 Catholic leaders and educators from diocesan offices and parishes, but above all science and religion teachers from Catholic high schools, supported by three successive grants from the John Templeton Foundation. For this work, he was co-recipient of an Expanded Reason Award in Teaching from the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (Madrid) and the Vatican Joseph Ratzinger Foundation (Rome).Chris presents on numerous topics at the intersection of faith and science to popular and scholarly audiences, ranging from the thematic (“Faith and Science: How and Why,” “Catholic Academic Integration - Science, Literature, History”) to the historical (“The Catholic Church and Modern Science: Understanding and Correcting Models of Conflict”) and topical (“Science and the Bible,” “Evolution and the Human Soul,” “In His Image: The Human Person from the Divine Perspective,” “The Widest Wisdom: The Christian Doctrine of Creation,” etc.). He is the author of Faith, Science and Reason: Theology on the Cutting Edge (2nd edition, Midwest Theological Forum, 2019) and Creation: A Catholic’s Guide to God and the Universe (Ave Maria Press, 2021). Chris serves as theological advisor to the Board of Directors of the Society of Catholic Scientists, as a faith-science consultant for the USCCB Committee on Catechesis and Evangelization, as a print, course and video transcript contributor to the JTF-funded science and religion programming of the Word on Fire Institute. His work has appeared in That Man is You, Crux and Church Life Journal. He chronicles his spiritual and intellectual journey and approach to the harmony of faith and science in an article entitled “Partners in Truth” in the Spring 2022 issue of Notre Dame Magazine.
