Christopher Ballmann Email and Phone Number
I am a well-versed scientist with an emphasis on exercise physiology and performance. I am highly proficient in the area of basic laboratory science, but with significant experience in applied human performance and elucidating physiological mechanisms by which performance may be enhanced. My experiences and credentials as a research exercise physiologist focus on ergogenic aids, performance enhancement in sports, and cardiovascular physiology. In this regard, I have been trained in renowned physiology laboratories with Dr. John Quindry (graduate work) at Auburn University and Dr. Glenn Rowe (post-doc fellowship) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2016, I accepted an Assistant Professor position at Samford University. Throughout my time at Samford, I have concentrated on teaching and mentoring undergraduates along with completing high-throughput undergraduate research. I have since then advanced in rank to Associate level and gained tenure status. I have taught a wide variety of courses which have been primarily undergraduate based. While at Samford, I have taught between 4-5 classes every semester for 7 years. These courses include lecture-type classes and lab courses that involve more hands-on learning. Undergraduate courses I have taught featured topics such as exercise physiology, exercise as medicine, research in exercise science, and also exercise and physical education classes. I am creative in the classroom and continually seek new pedagogy strategies to help further student understanding. I challenge students to think critically and apply their understanding and knowledge to their field. I am highly involved in the scientific community as a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and serve on editorial boards for high-impact journals such as Medicine & Science in Sport and Exercise, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Perceptual and Motor Skills, and Journal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology. At the core of everything I do, I have students in mind. My passion for this field is rooted in my desire to teach students about the multitude of benefits of exercise and how those benefits can be attained using evidence-based decisions.
