Gabon

Accountable for all surface engineering in Shell’s upstream ventures in Gabon, including new developments, project delivery, operations support, HSE performance, technical integrity and staff management. Manager of 40 staff engineers and 250 contractors, with an annual spend of US$80m capex and US$15m opex, and reporting into the Technical Director. The main challenges are leading a multicultural and diverse team to successfully deliver projects on cost and schedule in a remote and inaccessible area of Gabon, whilst maintaining our excellent HSE performance - 440 days at Goal Zero achieved. Major projects executed include Toucan field redevelopment, Koula completion and handover, brownfield development in Greater Gamba, especially asset integrity of facilities approaching “end-of-field” economic lifetime. Winner of Regional Projects Award for Excellence 2010.

Gabon

12-month secondment to initiate discussions on commercial terms for gas developments in Gabon, in parallel with field appraisal planning. Reporting to the CEO, working closely with the subsurface development teams, and in parallel supporting acquisition proposals.

Damascus, Syria

Team leader for all Process and Development Engineering in Al Furat Petroleum Co (AFPC), with an 11 strong team of engineers. Development of company business plans for all surface facilities and together with the subsurface teams, for the long-term field development strategies, including review of alternative operating models for declining fields. Responsible for all surface engineering capital proposals within AFPC. Projects ranged from gas plant rationalisation to multiphase facilities and HP air Injection for EOR, through to civil infrastructure projects. Area team leader of a multifunctional team providing oversight of the operation and development of the Tanak production area in eastern Syria. Contract holder for 100-strong manpower services contract providing all contract expatriate labour in AFPC.

Uae & Iran

Project manager for US$60m conversion of a jack-up Early Production Facility in the northern Persian Gulf (100 kbpd oil, 50 kbpd water injection, 8MW power), from initial tender to operation within the scheduled 21 months. Project manager to complete the conversion of FSU Soorena (350,000 dwt) during operations offshore Iran, leading a team of 15 offshore engineers / technicians, followed by facility handover to the client (National Iranian Oil Company). Development and leadership of a client training programme, and the “best in class” programme for client acceptance of all Soroosh and Nowrooz production facilities. Project manager, Soroosh Conductor Tower, from design to installation offshore, winning Silver Medal at the 2002 Shell International 2002 offshore workshop in Canada.

Seria, Brunei

Team lead responsible for Development Engineering for surface facilities for all Brunei Shell’s onshore operations, including oil and gas production stations, export terminal and produced water treatment and reinjection. Lead engineer for project development of a high profile environmental site remediation project (Sungai Bera Holding Basin $30m) to restore degraded site to pristine environmental condition, from feasibility to contractor prequalification, with 40% cost reduction achieved. Leader of a change management project to rationalise surface facilities and combine operations and maintenance teams in a slimmer organisation.

Port Harcourt, Nigeria

Senior process engineer, responsible for field development planning, concept selection and design of SPDC’s $500m Associated Gas Gathering Project, including gathering systems, booster compression stations and SPDC’s first gas injection scheme at Belema. Development of SPDC’s Gas Master Plan for Associated Gas Utilisation as a first step towards the plans for gas flaring reduction in Shell Nigeria’s eastern division.
