A hybrid developer - data scientist role, working for Uniper Technologies but supporting Uniper's trading business with the development of Azure-based, bespoke decision support and trading tools that combine data analysis and modelling, and also applying knowledge of trading and markets to support asset valuation and optimisation elsewhere in the business. Trading work has covered: market and price modelling (e.g. fundamental market modelling of wholesale and ancillary service markets, Monte Carlo simulations), asset scheduling and optimisation against market prices, analysis of historical market data, and automation of trading. Outside of trading, I have supported Uniper by applying asset scheduling and market modelling techniques to valuation of conventional plant investments, storage, demand-side response, and other asset types. I was also the developer of the externally sold WindArchitect and CableArchitect software tools, which optimised the turbine and cabling layouts of onshore and offshore windfarms respectively.

Initially, the role had a strong focus on thermal asset scheduling, applied either to optimisation of E.ON's own portfolio or to the entire market for fundamental market modelling. Over time, this focus on scheduling was also applied to the valuation of potential storage projects and technologies, and to valuation of other asset investments, and to other kinds of modelling for E.ON's trading business including Monte-Carlo and statistical price modelling and stochastic optimisation for opportunity cost calculations, VaR etc.
