My name is Christopher Bear and I am a Manufacturing Engineer for Raytheon Missiles and Defense in Tucson, Arizona. I work in a composites manufacturing plant where I have a broad set of responsibilities including Work Instruction management, process development, and dealing with production disruptions. In addition, I have worked projects where I designed new process tooling and reverse engineered legacy test equipment. In 2018, I earned a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from UCLA and have also received an A.S. in Physics from Reedley College. I am passionate about aircraft, space launch vehicles, and rockets in general. I was taught the value of knowing how to work with my hands from a young age and have translated that to a strong knowledge base of how machinery and structures work. For hobbies I like to design and build rockets and avionics electronics. I recently completed a large hybrid rocket that I designed and built that flew approximately 12,000ft and served as a proof of concept for a highly reliable recovery system. Since 2019 I have been working with a group of recent UCLA graduates to design and build a liquid bi-propellant sounding rocket with the goal of reaching space. We are currently in the propulsion design phase for a sub-scale proof-of-concept rocket.
