Substance Abuse Counselor
Current-Determined whether clients met DSM-5 criteria for substance use disorders to place them at the appropriate level of care-Launched initiative to conduct substance abuse assessments of inmates in Hawaii County Correctional Facilities, making residential treatment available to inmates immediately upon their release -Played a key role in implementing Day Treatment Program, a 20 hour per week community based program that continues to grow -Managed waiting lists and placements into Clinically Managed Low Intensity Residential Treatment program -Trained between 50 and 75 staff on clinical topics such as DSM-5 and ASAM endorsed subjects-Restructured processes, allowing Assessment/Intake Counselors to complete 12 assessments weekly (instead of 8) as well as maintaining census of all residential programs -Filled in for Director during absences. Facilitated clinical staff meetings and assisted team members in making clinical decisions -Maintained relationships with stakeholders, including probation/parole officers and case workers with Child Welfare Services and Drug Court, to ensure assigned individuals complete mandated substance abuse treatment programs
