Engineering Technician
As an Engineering Technician, I am responsible for a wide array of on-going tasks integral to the operations of the Public Works department. I function as an Engineering liaison between the city and contractors for Public Right-of-way construction projects. This task requires a thorough understanding of the City’s codes and many intergovernmental agreements. I aid in designing plan sheets for capital and public improvement projects. This aspect of my job requires a mastery of AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcMap to apply engineering principles to produce construction drawings and bid documents. I also serve as our departmental representative when the public has questions and or requires a site visit to their property or area of concern in the City.
Gis Technical Aid
As a Technical Aid, I am charged with a multitude of tasks by the City’s Engineering department. Tasks may range from updating and manipulating city assets, to rendering a mapped product for a resident or contractor. I routinely use AutoCAD Civil 3D for my tasks and utilize ArcMap 10.5 daily with this position.
Utility Locator & Surveyor
I identified and labeled public utility mains for The City of Beaverton OR. These mains include lines for storm drains, water mains, and wastewater pipes based on ArcView polyline layers maintained by the city’s Traffic Commission Recorder. Additionally, the company performs preliminary surveys of work order job sites
Gis Technician
• Performed QA/QC processes of the company’s GIS database in preparation for PGE’s 2015 Outage Management deployment. During my employment I demonstrated an ability to multitask at a high operational tempo, always meeting and exceeding expectations of time management. • The position required mastery of Schneider ArcFM and Esri Data Reviewer software, SDE/Version editing and Python scripting. Additionally an advanced understanding of modeling an electrical grid in terms of maintaining attribute logic structure and connectivity rules was required for the position.
Remote Sensing Technician
Quantum Spatial, formally Watershed Sciences inc., is nationally recognized as an industry leader in LiDAR based mapping and modeling. As a RS tech I was responsible for point processing airborne LiDAR data and extracting features to produce three dimensional ground models precise to less than 1 meter. These ground models visualized highly urbanized areas and or rugged forestry lands relevant to client’s needs. Point processing was implemented with Bentley Microstation V8i. ArcGIS edition 10.1 was used for editing ground models and creating forestry related shape files.
Utility Locator
This position entails pinpointing the precise location of underground utility pathways with the use of EM transceivers/receivers and interpreting transmission line maps and engineering schematics. As an accomplished utility locator I utilized my attention to detail and expert interpersonal communication skills to produce quality work while communicating with and mediating between property owners and industry contractors. Most often the job required working independently and creatively in a physically and mentally high stress environment.
Gis Analyst
I Served the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management and the PDX Neighborhood Coalitions by creating a comprehensive GIS database mapping the natural and anthropomorphic hazards that could adversely affect the populace of the metropolitan area. In the short time allotted to meet my goals I reduced the complexity of the data and developed citywide maps displaying spatial and temporal phenomenon in a compressive and aesthetically tangible format. All drafted materials were presented at steering committee meetings during the summer and autumn of 2011. During these meetings I personally explained maps and graphics and answered questions from city employees and Neighborhood coalition members. These GIS products will be of critical importance for the Bureau and the City at large when drafting strategies for disaster readiness and post-disaster mitigation. The position required extensive use of ArcGIS 9.0 – 10.0, Google Docs and Microsoft Excel and Access.
Intern/Contributing Researcher And Author:
I conducted research for the “2010 City of Portland’s all Hazards Mitigation Plan” redraft. The Primary task for the position was to organize prospective updates for the landslide chapter of the Mitigation Plan. The task required extensive research of multi-bureau codes and regulations at both the local and federal government levels as well as conducting interviews with city, state, and federal employees and other experts. All of these efforts were self directed and effectively assed the City’s readiness in mitigating for landslide hazards. A summary report of all information gathered and recommendations for updates was generated to communicate the strengths and deficiencies in Portland’s Landslide Hazard Mitigation plan. The report conveyed many technical and legal concepts in a professional manner that would also be interesting and tangible to a general audience.
Freelance Field Archaeological Technician
This position entailed performing standard procedures for excavating and identifying historic and prehistoric artifacts. Supplemental procedures and techniques included collecting and describing soils and implementing transected ground surveys. Ground surveys were followed by mapping transects with the use of Trimble and Garmin GPS units for large-scale measurements. Collecting field data also involved identifying and cataloging flora specimens as a means to date in situ land surfaces. All field findings were organized in data tables so as to later be transcribed in drafted reports.
