OverviewExtensive experience in an academic setting with training at both research intensive (R1) institutions as well as teaching intensive colleges and universities. Over a decade of experience working with college level students from historically underrepresented groups, providing extensive training in genetics, evolutionary biology, molecular biology and ecology. Academic detailsPerform teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, research, and service in an academic capacity. My research uses genomic data from reptiles and amphibians to better understand the process of lineage divergence and speciation. I am also interested in harnessing the power of next-generation DNA sequencing technologies for rapid species assessments to inform conservation. Computational expertise includes, but is not limited to, Unix, Python, R, cluster computing, and proficiency in a diverse suite of phylogenomic and population genomic tools. I also possess substantial experience in curriculum design through the creation of open educational resources (OERs). Success at obtaining federal funding for research and the supervision of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral research. Multiple peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals in the field of evolutionary genomics. (1) Service as program head for baccalaureate program in Biomedical Informatics (~200 - 300 students); (2) Service as Executive Officer of the CUNY Biology Ph.D. Program (~150 students). Duties include, but are not limited to, curriculum development, chairing committees, revising course offerings, reviewing and mentoring junior faculty, advising students, and managing budgets.
