Over twenty four years of leadership and management experience in the US Navy. Served, trained, managed, and led on submarines, destroyers, cruisers, helicopter carriers, and aircraft carriers experiencing all aspects of both enlisted and commissioned service. I enlisted in the US Navy in 1984, was commissioned as an officer in 1991, and retired as a Commander in January, 2013.Served as Executive Officer (equivalent to General Manager) for over four years on two separate ships, responsible for all operations, training, and maintenance, leading on average 320 individuals on each ship. Senior project manager for all training conducted, skillfully training the most inexperienced individuals to the most technically advanced and skilled teams. My first job as Executive Officer, USS Milus, I was tasked to implement the Navy’s new concept of “Optimal Manning” designed to reduce the manning requirements on US Navy ships. I successfully managed and led the ship through two complete training cycles, dry dock yard availability, and a six month deployment with over a 30 percent reduction in personnel assigned to the ship. My ship became the model for all other ships. This personnel model was instrumental in the entire US Navy, achieving a significant savings in overall manpower costs.
