I also worked here the next two summers (2009, 2010) while home from school.I was in charge of keeping many plants alive (which were potted and for sale outside), as well as operating heavy machinery to load stones, mulch, top soil, etc. onto customers pickup trucks. I learned the meaning of a hard day's work as I was also enlisted in helping my boss (and only other co-worker) do whatever repairs needed to be done to the shop or his house, as we were not the busiest of nurseries during the hot summer months.

At Yocco's they teach you to do everything from working the grill to running the cashier. That way they can find replacements much easier and it makes for a much more diverse work environment and happier employees.

I also worked here from September 2010 to January 2011.This job let me interact with various types of people on a daily basis. Much like serving, my proficiency was rewarded more or less instantaneously when the customer decided what size tip to include for my efforts. Needless to say, I found some people very interesting.

I learned secretarial skills as I wrote down phone orders while taking deliveries as they came.

I have always been adept at teaching so I gave it a go with snowboard instructing. The pay wasn't very steady but the benefits of the job (season pass and food discounts) usually outweighed it. I learned how everyone learns things differently, and to teach a group of 20 people even one simple thing can take longer than one might think.

I started as a dishwasher but eventually started preparing and maintaining the salad bar as my primary focus. I learned to be an efficient worker under the high volume of work that was to be completed on busy nights.
