I learned a valuable lesson in the workplace as a general laborer. Strong work ethic is an incredibly important quality to have. I started from the bottom up at Kyocera Inc., working as a helper. I would mop up floors, refill oil and do general tasks that prevent the machinists from doing their job. I proved to my supervisor that I was capable of handling more complex tasks. One day, my supervisor approached me and told me that he would like to have me operating on machines - a daunting task, as I have never done this before. However, in his words: "You can always teach someone how to do something, but you can't teach work ethic". From that day, I have been working as a machinist. In my time operating machines, challenges and new concepts to learn appear every single day, and I prove that I can handle it by accepting those challenges and constant learning. This mindset does not only apply to being a machinist. My determination to learn and grow is applicable in any environment.I believe that this kind of attitude and ability to apply myself is paramount in growing my career and improving my professionalism. You can't get things done unless you have the will to put in the effort to get them done.
