In 2012 I was given additional responsibility for the 2012 Vessel Entry outage season.  I was given Rolls Royce training and also employed in Decon.• Rolls Royce training involved checking for defects.  It is the duty of the Rolls Royce team on site to enter the vessel and carry out checks for any defects on the boilers, checking tailpipes for defects under direction of the Vessel Entry Controller.• Training for Vessel Entry outages at Hunterston B and Hinkley B Power Stations involved… Show more In 2012 I was given additional responsibility for the 2012 Vessel Entry outage season.  I was given Rolls Royce training and also employed in Decon.• Rolls Royce training involved checking for defects.  It is the duty of the Rolls Royce team on site to enter the vessel and carry out checks for any defects on the boilers, checking tailpipes for defects under direction of the Vessel Entry Controller.• Training for Vessel Entry outages at Hunterston B and Hinkley B Power Stations involved completing and assisting with safety dives, and all other dives that are required, dressing entrants to enter the training simulator and working the reels to allow more hose to be inserted into the rig if the entrants request it.  The work involves working in confined space and very hot conditions and I passed a Vessel Entry medical to ensure I was fit for this type of work.• After successfully completing the training I was mobilised to site and I helped in the successful completion of outages at Hunterston B Power Station and Hinkly Point B Power Station.  Duties included dressing vessel entrants and assisting with umbilical movement.  Also involved entering the vessel and assisting tradesman with tooling during vessel entry work including dressing, surveys, debris matting and baffle plates.  I was also given the extra responsibility of working as part of the Rolls Royce team checking for defects.• On this years outage campaign I was also employed in a decon role.  The duties of a decontaminator are:- Assist and support health physics monitors- Reduce and control contamination from equipment and surfaces- Assist in correct procedures in contaminated areas- Declassify contaminated areas- Set up barriers and designated contamination areas- Reduce unwanted radioactivity and radioactive sources- Removal of contaminated waste- Responsible for equipment including DE-RAD liquid Show less

I began as an apprentice with the company Bart Endean in Blyth and I worked here for 8 years.  I successfully completed my apprenticeship, learning all aspects of the trade, and am fully time served.  After this I began to work for Dixons of Westerhope and worked there for 4 years. I am now working self employed with my own company, Brosnan’s Fireplaces and Stoves. These include shaping, carving and laying stone to suit customer preferences. I can work outdoors in the yard and indoors to prepare fireplaces and headstones using a lot of different machinery and tools.• In this line of work I deal with the customers face to face and over the telephone if needed.  This has given me confidence and I possess excellent communicational skills. I am able to work equally effectively as part of a team or working on my own, using my own initiative.  I always ensure jobs are completed to a very high standard. Show less
