Know yourself and seek self-improvement—a single key principle among many, but one that has driven me from a diverse career in the Marines to building software. About my values: Set the example--even when no one’s looking. Integrity is the personal value I work hardest to maintain and the primary value I hope to instill in my daughter. Keep moving forward. I have successes and I have failures, and I try not to rely on the former or get mired in the latter. Seek new experiences and new cultures and immerse yourself when presented with them. I've never learned faster than when I've found myself in a foreign or unfamiliar environment. Seek efficiencies and preserve time. I value my time, so I should value yours as well. Be considerate. In the military, the functional phrasing is, “What do I know, who needs to know it, and have I told them.” Regular practice of that simple mantra builds a mindful habit applicable in any relationship, be it personal or professional. Maintain perspective. Unless a life or livelihood is in danger, you can recover from the fumble.
