About Christopher Calloway
I am an experienced electrical engineer and software/firmware programmer. I have considerable experience with digital design, including designing and taping out my own ASIC, working in R&D with Xilinx FPGA products, largescale UVM design verification industry work, PCB design for interfacing with FPGAs, physical design and layout of ASICs, and clean room lithography and etching equipment experience. In addition, I have significant experience in software development, including creating a custom operating system for a Raspberry Pi B+ in C, designing software-based signal processing systems for spectrogram analysis, creating machine learning models for various research projects including a sensor fusion based fall detection system, various Python based projects such as regression scripts, GUIs, and data analysis, and source control systems including Git, Team Foundations and SVN. I am very comfortable with C/C++ (including .NET), Python, Matlab, and Verilog/System Verilog. In addition, I have worked with Java, JavaScript (with React), Perl, and VHDL.I have served as a TA for several college courses and I am comfortable teaching technical topics in addition to general public speaking. I have a BS in Computer Science from Columbia with a focus in Graphics/Robotics in addition to a minor in Electrical Engineering. I also have a MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford with a focus in the ASIC design flow. I graduated both schools with a 4.0+ GPA while participating in campus activities such as a literature and debate club, a space initiative club, and a choral group. Prior to college, I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and had some success in competition math.

Course Assistant
Assisted in teaching EE 108 Digital System Design at Stanford for 2 quarters. The course covered digital logic, timing analysis, and several Verilog-based FPGA labs. Assisted in teaching ENGR 40M for 3 quarters. This course taught basic Electrical Engineering academic and lab skills including Kirchoff's circuit laws, operational amplifier feedback.
Silicon Engineering Group Design Verification Intern
Worked on UVM based Design Verification for Apple's interconnect fabric RTL. Wrote class-based System Verilog verification for largescale simulations of many transaction signals, with a focus on cache coherency. Work included designing regression scripts and coverage groups for long term analysis.
Research Intern
Researched methods of ground-based camera tracking and identification of aircraft. Designed a real-time program in C++ that computed optical flow for aircraft in complicated environments. Used optical flow data to feed an unsupervised learning program to segment aircraft from the background. Submitted a Standard Form 86 and received security clearance for.
Course Assistant
Assisted in teaching COMS 3827 Fundamentals of Computer Systems course at Columbia for 3 semesters. Instructed students about microprocessor design, MIPS assembly language, flip flops, transistors, logic gates, combinational logic, sequential logic, and caches. Responsibilities included writing/grading homework questions, grading exams, monitoring the.
Grant-Based Summer Researcher
Received a grant from the Data Science department for independent summer research. Researched indirect measures of student engagement via ocular measurements such as gaze length, saccade velocity, pupil size, and blink duration. Wrote a deep learning algorithm in Python that predicts student engagement based on ocular measures scraped from Zoom recordings..
Intern
Hired as a summer Research intern at MIT Lincoln Lab. Due to Covid-19 pandemic internship postponed until 2021. As an alternative, made efforts to start an independent research project with the Columbia Data Science department.
Undergraduate Researcher
Enrolled in a work/research project at the Columbia Creative Machines Laboratory. Researched ultrasound technologies to create an affordable ultrasound device. Work including writing signal processing code in C++ to convert raw data into appropriate data for 3D ultrasound images. Wrote data visualization code with OpenGL to render 3D ultrasound images.
Intern
Worked with the Vector Network Analyzers (VNA) R&D team on updating and improving the device calibration process. Created a data visualization improvement forthe calibration software that included showing margin of error and improved smith charts. These improvements were shipped to a top defence company. Additionally, worked on converting an important.
Intern
Helped improve Keysight's Vector Network Analyzer data serialization method while leveraging efficiency, security, readability and system storage spatial constraints. Conceptualized and implemented a novel "round trip" regression method for testing the new serialization code.
Intern
Worked with Keysight's Vector Network Analyzer team. Automated the hardware and software pre-shipping checklist with Python scripts. This process required checking software versions, register settings, boot time and other required signs of life. Improved speed of process by 96%.
Unpaid Summer Research Intern
Worked with Professor Gurman Gill to apply machine learning algorithms to an fMRI database. The database included fMRI scans and a corresponding image that the patient looked at while the scan was performed. Wrote an SVM and KNN based system in Python that predicted which image the fMRI scans were associated with based on the blood based features of the.
