There's nothing like that "lightbulb" moment when a student understands something they didn't know just a few minutes before. I love that. My love for teaching arose from my youth when I began volunteering to teach CCD with my mother at 14 years of age. From there, I knew that teaching was what I was meant to do. I developed an intrinsic motivation to better students both academically and interpersonally. Between the 17 years of my own education, volunteering in the tutoring center at TCNJ, and my clinical experiences in the classroom, I am still fiercely motivated to help students reach their full potential and be that positive role model that children need in their lives. My first student teaching experience was at an eighth-grade level at a large urban school with a predominantly diverse population. Currently, I am student teaching at Pine Brook School in Manalapan, NJ. I believe my varied experience has given me insight on how to create personalized learning experiences for all students where they are challenged to reach their full potential. Through my experiences, I have noticed students learn best when they are engaged in the content and connected with their teacher. Creating relationships with students are key for them to effectively learn. Differentiation is also important in the classroom to encourage every type of learner to discover and gain a passion for learning. My goal inside and outside of my classroom is to always provide a comfortable environment for my students, so they can think openly, communicate with each other and myself, as well as work collaboratively with others to improve and succeed. Outside the classroom and throughout my life, I have been heavily involved in community service, working in my church as a CCD teacher, and coaching youth tackle football. I believe, to be successful citizens, students should be involved in their community, with a "pay it forward" attitude. It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate and enthusiastic teacher who will make a positive contribution to a school.
