Examining the genetics of dairy cows from Irish herds in an attempt to find the most desirable genetic strain of dairy cows across a range of different management system on Irish farms. This involves analysing data from over 8000 herds in Ireland across a number of years. Worked with the programming languages SAS and R as part of the editing and analysing.

For this role, I worked behind the counter in one of the Glanbia branches. I learned a considerable amount about the products sold and an awful lot about Agribusiness in general. Meeting customers on a daily basis, I quickly learned how vital it is to have a good relationship with the customers. Being part of the team carrying out stock takes, I got to appreciate the importance of good record keeping.

This job entailed working and looking after farms. This required leadership and the ability to learn quick as it was often the case that I was on my own on the farm to carry out the daily tasks. The roles differed greatly on a day to day basis so required knowledge in a number of areas. Tasks involved working with animals and machinery on a regular basis.
