About Christopher "Cj" Smith
As Director of Site Operations, I am responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation. I establish and reinforce the standards and expectations for Operations Department. Thus, ensuring an error-free and professional work environment. As a member of the senior leadership team I am a major decision maker for a multi-million-dollar facility with a multi-million dollar operation budget with strong regulatory involvement and media interest. I interface directly with the station leadership team regarding functional responsibilities along with the NRC, NSRB, and INPO, on matters related to plant operations, training, safety culture and human performance.To meet the demands of my position I have demonstrated, to be a very people-oriented leader with the excellent skills in planning, organizing, and controlling of a work force with the various diverse backgrounds needed to safely operate the plant. Additionally, I have shown an ability to lead calmly in a position which has a high stress factor and diverse pressure.I honed my technical, personal, and leadership skills through a progression of positions requiring continued development. This experience base started with 10 years in the US Navy beginning as a Nuclear Machinist Mate, Lead Engineering Laboratory Technician and Engineer Watch Supervisor. After the Navy, I then became a partner in a small business in north Florida which maintained and serviced swimming pools. This required working in all facets of the business that supported a customer base of over 200 clients. Leveraging my nuclear field background, I reentered the industry as a Chemistry Technician. Then joined Exelon as an Equipment Operator. Being recognized as a developing leader, I was provided the opportunity to complete the NRC’s Senior Reactor Operator license program. As I continued to develop, I received additional leadership challenges to stretch my abilities within the Operations Department. I progressed through Shift Manager, Operations Services Manager and culminating my time in Operations as the Shift Operation Superintendent, which is the senior license holder onsite. To diversify my leadership, I have earned leadership positions as the Director of Work Management and Director of Organizational Performance and Regulatory.Along the way I have completed the US Navy’s Nuclear Power Program for Machinist Mates and Engineering Laboratory Technicians, earned my Senior Reactor Operator license from the NRC and completed my Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Management in December of 2015.
