I have been working as a Physiotherapist since completing my Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree with honours in 1997. I commenced working with sports early in my career, initially cutting my teeth with the Sri Lanka Davis Cup Tennis squad in Junior ITF tournaments. This sport pathway continued, later working with both the Sri Lankan (2003-2007) and West Indies International Cricket Teams (2007-2018) and had great success with both winning two T20 Cricket World Cup rings in 2012 & 2016. This elite level sport experience grooved my sports and musculoskeletal physiotherapy skills as a clinician, having to work tirelessly to thoroughly assess and diagnose acute & chronic injury, and develop meaningful and effective physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation programs. My exposure to Physical Performance Management of Athletes in the elite levels of sport involved a keen understanding of the medical support structures and networking required to deliver a seamless approach using medical imaging services, specialist consultation and often surgical intervention. Constant travel with the International Cricket touring squads required significant effort and co-ordination to manage injury, health and wellbeing across time zones and often hemispheres! I recognised the importance of minimising injury occurrence through optimisation of health and physical condition, which lead me to seek a Masters Degree in Exercise Science (Strength & Conditioning) and further advanced training in Exercise Oncology Medicine with Edith Cowan University in Western Australia. I am currently working with GenesisCare UK who have an affiliation with Edith Cowan and use this specialist knowledge as an Exercise Clinic Lead Physiotherapist to design Exercise Medicine training programs for patients undergoing Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy treatment to minimise the often devastating effects of cancer. I continue to work privately to continue honing my physiotherapy and advanced specialist rehabilitation skills, and have recently completed athletic physiological profiling and sports-specific performance testing through Vitruvian Elite Sports Performance & Analysis Ltd. based in Norfolk UK.My career desire is to provide ongoing health & wellbeing support to all individuals in need regardless of age, health status or level of sports competition or accomplishment. I wish for optimal health outcomes for all individuals, and these are achieved through careful assessment and analysis, intelligent programming and training progression aided by clear communication and patient education.
