My primary responsibility was to do consultations regarding risk reduction and STI prevention with clients who utilized the services of the Ingham County Health Department STI Clinic, and specifically the clients who were interested in receiving testing for HIV and other STIs. My other responsibilities in my position were to do follow-up with patients who became infected with gonorrhea and HIV, to ensure that they received proper treatment and that they were offered Partner Services, a CDC-designed program for infected individuals to inform their sex partners of their infected status so that the sex partners can receive testing and, if needed, treatment. I also communicated with healthcare providers in Ingham County to ensure that patients who were seen in providers other than the ICHD STI Clinic received proper treatment for various STIs. Additionally, I took part in community outreach events sponsored by the Ingham County Health Department, as well as community-based organizations in greater Lansing such as the Lansing Area AIDS Network. These events were designed to increase awareness of the social service network available to Ingham County residents, and to promote healthy lifestyles and the reduction of preventable diseases.
