I dreamt up Operation Mistletoe in mid-2022, and spent the Fall months fulfilling a long-time dream of founding a charity designed to benefit hospitalized children and their families. As a part-time motorcycle enthusiast, and a full-time holiday season enthusiast, I knew that while I may never be as cool as the real Santa Claus with his flying sleigh bringing toys to children around the world, I felt I could get at least part of the way there by bringing toys to children in local hospitals, and household goods for their families on the back of my bike.This being its first iteration, it came with a great deal of learning and exploration into the ins and outs of how best to organize a charitable endeavor, from communications to logistics, as well as how to create a framework of operation that can be not only repeated, but hopefully scaled. With the support of a mentor, friends, family, and more internet articles than I can remember, we were able to raise enough in financial and material donations to make deliveries to three hospitals in Westchester County (NYP Westchester, Elizabeth Seton Children's Hospital, and Blythedale Children's Hospital).
