I co-founded SyCon -The Sporting Bodymind Group - with John Syer and pioneered applied sports psychology and mental training in Britain with great success. Over the last 30 years I have worked with elite athletes in over thirty sports,Premiership football clubs, Olympic and National and professional teams in Britain, Europe and in the United States. My success working with elite sports people led to working with business where I have been widely recognised and sought after as an expert in Team Development, Leadership and Executive Coaching.I have also led research projects at the Royal College of Music which help enhance the performance in elite musicians. I have authored a number of books, published in academic journals and lectured widely at conferences and within organisations. I have made numerous appearances on television and radio.As well as being an executive coach, I continue to act as coach and mental trainer to elite athletes and musicians. My current interest is Transition Expertise. I recently completed a 3 year research project comparing elite performers in music, sport and business to identify the characteristics that enabled them to make repeated, successful career transitions to leadership in their field. My research identifies: - the kinds of motivation that produces career successful career transitions - the way that individuals generalise expert performance to expert leadership] - the nature of the personality resiliency that enables individuals to persevere - how individuals perform under pressure and bounce back from setbacks, - the true roles of interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence in transitions - how organisations can enable their top performers to transition to senior leadership positions - the role that self esteem, self efficacy and self concept play in successful transitions.
