Special Education Teacher
CurrentI work with students with disabilities that exhibit challenging behaviors to a varying degree. My students focus on skills such as brushing their teeth, some job skills, domestic skills, and so on. Some of the behaviors that are most common within my classroom are aggression, self-injury, PICA, and attention seeking behaviors. In my work, I develop and design a wide range of curriculum that is specific to each student and the way that they learn. Teaching plans are detailed to the time of day and the prompting level that the particular student will require to be successful. Each student is treated as a special situation and receives individual attention in a nearly 1:1 ratio setting. Within my classroom there is room for 6 students as well as 5 staff which I supervise as they assist me in running the goals of the students and managing their behaviors. I work in a school which practices ABA behavioral and teaching techniques in working with our students.
