Territory Manager for the North West - selling the Exactech Product Range (Hips, Knees, Shoulders) in to hospitals, dealing directly with surgeons and NHS Procurement/Purchasing Managers

Within my role at RTC North I was responsible for the day to day management of the STEMNET contract for Greater Merseyside. This project aims to encourage children to take up STEM related subjects and eventually enter a related career. This is achieved by introducing STEM activities in schools and visits from industry professionals who register as STEM Ambassadors.The role involves regular contact with teachers to organise events in schools, often within a short time-frame and working to small budgets. Interaction with a large number of industry professionals is also required in order to engage them in the project and monitor their activity within schools.I previously worked on the NWDA funded FP7 project at RTC. This project provided free assistance to NW organisations wishing to participate in FP7 and other EC research and innovation funding schemes. Responsibilities included raising awareness through seminars & workshops, assisting in proposal preparation and contract negotiation, answering queries and conducting partner searches. During my time at RTC I gained a broader understanding of Research and Technology Development, giving me a good grounding to undertake the assessment of proposals for applied research.

Within this role I developed working relationships with University Academics, Physicians, Surgeons, NHS Intellectual Property Hubs, University Technology Transfer Personnel and Professional Advisors – IP, Legal, Accounting etc.The role required me to conduct a review of potential medical / surgical device development opportunities including initial patent searches, preliminary market searches and preparation and presentation of summary information to be provided to clinical reviewers. Therefore, I have a valuable understanding of the process that must be undertaken in order to take an initial idea through to a commercial product.
