The WiSCIENCE Public Service Fellows trains graduate students in STEM to integrate public service with scientific training. The program builds foundational knowledge, skills, and practical experience in public service and community engagement. The fellows program culminates in a practicum experience in one of four paths: community engaged teaching, direct service, policy and governance, or social entrepreneurship.Direct service pathway practicum with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources studying policy solutions to reducing food waste entering landfills, specifical regulations on food scrap feeding to swine in Wisconsin, and communication strategies to increase public and policymaker attention on the issue of food waste.

Teaching assistant for General Chemistry I (Fall 2019) and General Chemistry II (Spring 2020). I led two discussions and one lab session per week for two sections of 20 students each for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters. During discussions, I selected problems designed for concept mastery for small-group work and helped prepare students for quizzes and exams. During lab sessions, I ensured students learned good safety and experimental techniques, facilitated independent learning, and guided students to discover connections between the experimental and conceptual components of the course. During the Spring of 2020, I also assisted in transitioning General Chemistry II to an online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic by assisting with lecture video closed captioning and centering student needs by accommodating the new and unique learning environments many were rapidly thrust into 2/3 of the way into the semester.

I gave campus admissions tours to prospective high school and transfer students and their families as well as elementary and middle school field trip groups. Additionally, I have been selected several times to give administrative candidate tours of campus, including finalist candidates for the university Chancellor and Provost positions.

Under the guidance of Dr. Jack Tanner, and graduate student Ashley Campbell, I investigated the structure and characteristics of substrate channels within bifunctional proline metabolism enzymes using structural biology techniques including x-ray crystallography.

I was the undergraduate student representative on the selection committee conducting a national search for the next Dean of the College of Arts and Science at the University of Missouri. The new dean will oversee 9,000 students, 500 faculty, 200 staff members, 28 departments, 13 programs, three interdisciplinary centers/institutes, and two museums as well as the completion of the University's new School of Music building.

As Vice President for External Relations, I was in charge of organizing many of Mizzou's largest and most respected traditions--Tiger Walk, Senior Sendoff, and Mizzou 39. Additionally, I helped establish Mizzou 18, a recognition program for the 18 most distinguished graduate and professional students at the University of Missouri.

Through the DAAD RISE summer research program, I conducted secondary-metabolite natural products research in St. Johns Wart family plants using chromatographic separation and 1-D and 2-D NMR analysis. My research was supervised and guided by Serge Alain Fobofou Tanemossu. I was able to isolate and identify via 1-D and 2-D NMR analysis a metabolite never before isolated in our target species.
