Middle School Science Teacher
Current* Create a safe, engaging, and dynamic classroom environment where all students feel comfortable being curious, taking risks, accepting challenges, and celebrating achievements. Using the Next Generation Science Standards ( NGSS) as a catalyst, intentionally weave and integrate social and emotional learning (SEL), themes of representation, anti-racist practices, and gender equity into instruction. Hold all students to high standards while appreciating the diverse individual needs and backgrounds of each student.* Plan, develop, implement, and assess student-centered lessons in accordance with NGSS and district goals. Use digital data management tools to drive and evaluate the effectiveness of instruction.* Immerse students in an interdisciplinary learning experience by integrating the NGSS with historical context, practical application to the natural world, abstract reasoning, explicit instruction of research skills, and expository writing skills.* Integrate technology to enrich and personalize the learning experience for students. Continuously pilot and evaluate emerging Edtech. Stay familiar with established Learning Management Systems (LMS), Clever, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, iWork. Develop and use data driven markers to establish effectiveness of technology as a tool to create dynamic media as opposed to a tool to consume media. * Work collaboratively in different professional teams in varied capacities: thought partner, methodology, mentorship, professional development, current trends in science, union representative. In coordination with Special Education staff, counselors, and related service providers, implement Individualized Education Plans (IEP), 504 Accommodation Plans, and District Curriculum Plans with purpose and empathy.* Improve the learning community for students and the professional communities of adults by serving in various leadership capacities within High Rock School and the greater Needham Public Schools community.
